I just love "The Closer" TV show. It warms my heart watching a strong, smart woman kicking butt in TV land. Of course, here's the strange part. I have had dinner with G.W. Bailey...or better known, perhaps, as Detective Lt. Provenza.
He is so like his character in real life!
Funny, articulate, and charming all describe G.W. Bailey
Would he remember me? Not likely. I, on the other hand, will always remember the night we met! It was an embarrassing fan moment at its best.
Here I am in Topeka, Kansas getting ready to sit down to an gourmet Italian dinner with my boss and his wife. Just as my behind starting making contact with my chair...the hostess had given us a delightful table with a lovely view...when I spy G.W. quietly enjoying a bottle of wine, thought-provoking book, and a delicious pasta dish. Bingo! I am out of my chair in a flash, make rushed apologies to my boss...who has this perplexed look...and dashed (Oh, yes! I said DASH) to G.W.'s table.
"Hi!" I sputter. "You are staying at my hotel and the whole staff is just raving about how nice you are and how much they love having you stay with them. I'm staying there too! Oh my gosh! I have interrupted your dinner and I would never think of being a nuisance!"
Having said that, I promptly sat down at his table! The look on my face must have shouted a million words because I just felt shocked at myself and my "bad" behavior.
How could I just plop myself down and act as if I had been invited to dinner? My face must have turned beet red! G.W. was ever gracious and generously offered me a glass of wine. I stammered something about having never done such a weird thing, he said he could tell that must be true.
We conversed for a few minutes after which I excused myself to re-join my boss and his wife. Ever the gracious human being, G.W. actually did invite me to dinner the following night. I will always remember his kindness....to an ill behaved fan.
